01 — Teaching

The craft, the critique, and the field they're entering.

I teach multimedia arts the way I practise it: as a way of seeing before it is a set of tools. Software changes every year, so my classes spend as much time looking at, analysing and interpreting images as making them.

A poster, an app screen or a fundraising photograph is never neutral — it frames someone, for someone. My research on how nonprofit campaigns frame the communities they serve taught me that, and I want students to carry that critical habit into everything they make.

I also stay in industry. Leading product design at Cortanatech means what I bring into the classroom is current: real briefs, real clients, real constraints. I work best as a collaborator — with students, colleagues and the institution — and across cultures; Malaysia has been part of my working and academic life for a decade.
